ROSE GARDEN AT MÁLAGA

Geometrical beds filled with rose srubs form an interesting pattern of almost labyrinthine atmosphere.

At the heart of Málaga city, just beside the Tawn Hall -a pretty modernist building from the 30's- we can find the gardens of 'Pedro Luis Alonso' -first Málaga Mayor after Civil War- devote to roses. Lied out in 1945 by an architect under hispano-arabic and french influences they also include the way in wich the gardens were made in Spain at that time, a path followed by sevillean Javier de Whintuysen and french JCN Forestier garden designers. From our point of view structure is its most valuable quality of these public gardens. Different geometrical beds filled with rose srubs form an interesting pattern of almost labyrinthine atmosphere. In the straight main paths orange trees underline their role as structure foundations while myrtle edges (Myrtus comunis), used instead box in southern Spain, drawn rose beds outline. Generalife type waterchannel -here out of scale-, morish fountains and solid brick pavings act as typical ornaments of a mediterranean garden at the foot of impresive Alcazaba.
