Dereck Jarman (1942-1994) was an active English artist working as film director, stage designer, diarist, gardener and author. His garden legacy is 'Prospect Cottage' in Dungeness, Southern England, where he retired and lived until his premature dead. There he made an open garden under the hard conditions of coastal climate. Hardy perennials and local plants -like Crambe maritima, see image below- were used as companions of artistic features. Those were made by Jarman using on site stones and different materials he collected in the surroundings. The gentle and smooth atmosphere he created beside a tipycal construction of the area still retains the poetic spirit of a man full of sensibility and art substance.
